  • After finally having some time to take a listen at this one.....I WANNA COPY!

Especially after listening from 4:40 onward! MAN that reminds me so much of the 1978 RTS's that the University Transit Service once had. Same engine/tranny specs as this one, had the "slopeback" until CTS got theirs in 1982. Then they upgraded to the "backpack".

  • @MetroLinerXLZ You got it i got to go back to work at 5:00 PM this evening but i should be back home by 2:00AM Ill look for the recording and hopefully you should have it sometime early tomorrow morning.

  • do you have any of the 6v92 Bus Recordings of a San Antonio VIA Buses? Our RTS Buses in San Antonio are slowly retiring.

  • No didn't get to ride those but i don't know i saw a picture of bus 656's engine and it looked like a 6L71TA or some tipe of Cummins engine if you live in San Antonio go and try to get a video or a recording of one of them i my self don't get vacation time until March of next year and by that time those buses will probably be gone.

  • 6L71TA? I didn't know there was a 6L71TA RTS Bus Before. All I know is that there was some 6v92 Buses on the RTSws. but If I go, I will Catch one of those RTS Buses. I can record any bus sound I can Catch it as long as it was there on a Bus.

  • There is a video recording you uploaded around six month ago of Long Beach Transit bus #9202 but with pictures of VIA RTS buses well one of those pictures has bus #656 with the engine hood open pause the video and put it in full screen and you will see that the engine is not a 6V92TA it looks more like a 6L71TA but with missing parts if that's the case then you might have something very rare that i didn't notice when i was there or is just that one bus.BTW They do sound like 6V92TA engines.

  • Sounds like the 8V71 Flxibles. Detroit Diesel V8's are the best

  • Did the RTS with 8V71 engines buses ever repowered newer engines or did they keep their those engines till their retirement?

  • the RTS was a strong bus. Wichita Transit drove them for 26 yrs before finally retiring them all

  • Well for the last 5 years the RTS have hung tough despite efforts to retire them all.The Champion Buses failed which was in their favor. The demand for bus sevice is so great at rush hours they are still needed. However Via lost its contract w the schools no more school runs and because of the Disabled Act require buses to accomidate disabled people. more have been retired I think there might be 30 left.2 years ago there were around 60.I heard new buses will be coming out next year which means..

  • all of Cleveland's 8V71 powered RTS's except one retained their original engines and V730 trannies until they were retired.
