Keep your left pinky on the stick. It'll give you better control.

@Mirber i just read the few comments, there is a misunderstanding, You are playing matched grip, but matched french, French grip is thumbs up, german, is back of your hands up, and american, is right in the middle, so you are french grip, and matched grip. hope i cleared that up ;) and nice vid, good finger technique
-
future timpani virtuoso with that french grip lolz
-
@killovideo actually french is matched, there are 3 sub categories of matched: german, french, american.
-
The way he holds his sticks isn't incorrect at all. 'French grip' is what it's called and it allows for more articulate playing imo, it isn't resticted for tympani or jazz either.

lol haha dude ur fuckin bad ass at french grip? do u play tamphany in school or what? french is with ur thumbs facing up, match grip is palms down, and traditional is the one they use in drumline! :)

You're not being sarcastic are you? Wen I said what I said I wasn't saying what you were doing was bad or anything... I was just wondering why you were using that grip.

no, no sarcasm. I just don't know what French grip looks like. I thought I was using matched grip.
