Blockhead by Devo - Demo - Driving From Newport Beach to Huntington Beach

I was driving down PCH on Sunday, listening to some vintage tunes and remembering the "good old days" when all I needed to be happy was music and a drive in the car. In fact, I actually relived the feeling and felt appreciation for the fact that I live in Southern California. I decided to capture my summer drive down PCH on video for a few reasons.

Devo were light years ahead of their time. For a couple of years in the late 70's, they really were the business. They created such an utterly unique sound, and 'Blockhead' is an absolute gem. Thanks for uploading!

@whouster You are welcome. It's been fun for me to hear it again. My husband has been getting out some old singles and putting them on CD. He also has Mechanical Man, Clock Out and Automodown. I remember getting the plastic DEVO suit in an album and trying to get away with wearing it to school. So fun.

You've brought my adolescent memories flooding back Sheri! I remember having the 7 inch EP with the tracks you mentioned on it. If memory serves, it was a pale green sleeve contained in a transparent plastic bag (at least that's how it was here in the UK). I remember the day I bought 'Are we not Men' on picture disc in '79 - I was thrilled!

PS. Don't take any notice of that aptly named dork moaning about the video, lovely to see blue skies during our grey and wet November!

@whouster So glad to be of service. You may know of my husband and Zed Records. Legend has it that for a period of time his store was the only one that carried this Devo EP. He did a lot of travel back and forth to England and there were a lot of exchanges that took place. The EP was very rare and had 4 alternative "covers" if I remember correctly. My husband knows more but he's not here right now. Cheers!

I'm afraid I was unaware of Zed Records, but I'm impressed by your hubby's Devo marketing credentials! Such a shame that over the years my rare vinyl has disappeared, music is so special and personal in your teenage years. There was a wonderful little independent record shop in my home town of Bath where I bought the EP, and they were great at championing the more off the wall and less commercial stuff. I raise my hat to you and your husband!

@whouster good to connect with someone across the pond. I've always been fond of the U.K. sound from as far back as the British Invasion. The Beatles just now are available on iTunes for the first time ever. Can you imagine?
