@cooterman4 You right of course, but the Captain never hand over command to the pilot (even if the pilot steers or gives rudder commands, the final word is always the captains). The pilot is an advisor that is there to assist the captain with advice.
Pilot boarding ground can differ from port to port and you can have diffrent boarding areas for diffrent type of ships
I doubt there was a pilot onboard at this point.
To me it looks someone is drunk or has fallen sleep. Or both !

Well I can only think of a few reasons, either the controls were stuck, the captain was taking a dump and forgot the ship was running wide open, or they intentionally grounded it, to cut it up for scrap.
