Oh this is perfect...I thought the rest of the pilot seemed slightly awkward compared to the aired episode but here Sherlock figured it out much more quickly! I always thought it had taken him an impossibly long time to grasp that the killer was a cabby, he should have known at LEAST since the scene at Angelo's since that's when I considered the possibility. This part and the slightly more "human" portrayal of Sherlock are the only things that I wish would have been this way in the episode.

i feel so bad for John, he's only just met the guy, knows nothing about him, yet -everyone- is already assuming they're lovers...whether you ship Johnlock or not, at that moment that is one hell of an awkward position to be in.
