What happens when two jumping spiders of different species meet each other? Let's give it a try with my pet spiders in captivity.

BOY MEETS GIRL

Starring :
Female adult jumping spider (Pseudeuophrys erratica or less likely to be P. iwatensis, family Salticidae) of 3.5 mm in body length.
Male adult jumping spider (Phintella sp. or possibly Phintella castriesiana, family Salticidae) of 4.5 mm, without the left foreleg.

Whenever he recognized the female, he raised the remaining right foreleg as the ritualized threat display. The female simply retreated. The background was 1 mm grid paper. Late-May 2011 in Japan.

  • Fascinating display for something this tiny. A spiders brain is probably equivalent to a circuit board with a couple of wires and a LED light, and yet the jumping spider is so versatile and "intelligent"

    oops, pardon me!

nowadays my daily uploads of hd quality r released at my new channel.

  • @sigma1920HD I am one of your first subscribers there.

    hi, there.

as u know, jumping spiders have evolved to have ritualized displays to avoid the direct confrontation.

sometimes the critters with tiny brains r more civilized than homo sapiens.

btw, ive moved to a new YT channel ever since i got a new HD cam.

  • Wise, very wise spiders avoiding confrontation.
