I don't think you believe in what you want. You believe what you believe based on what you've learned and experienced in life. You can't "choose" to believe or not believe. You just believe if you believe. This is why the idea of going to hell for not believing in god makes no sense to me (even if god and hell exist).... Nobody can help it if they don't believe. They can of course pretend to believe but then that would be hypocritical which is surely worse than not believing anyway.
