The bike ran great during a 4500km trip. The last day the idle went up by 300 RPM and the engine was not starting as well as it did before, but still ran more or less okay. The next morning the bike ran like shown in the video... really bad and riding it is impossible. What causes this problem is unclear to me. Possibly a sensor or something that has gone on the blink? It seemes to me that fuel starvation may have something to do with it. 4500km ago a new fuel filter was installed.

Problem solved. It was a bad connection between the ECU and its connector. Just unplugged the connector, and plugged it back in. Bike runs just fine now

  • Valve adjust and TB sync FTW

  • @viggoM35

IThe problem was a bad connection between the ECU connector and ECU itself. Runs fine now.

  • How is the handlebar vibration on this bike? I've got a k100rs 16v that numbs my right hand within 20 minutes... PS Do you actually ride around with a yellow and a white mirror on a red bike? ;)

  • @camel747

My handlebar vibrates as well. I hear it is quite common, BMW never got the engine running as smooth as one would expect of a bike this caliber. The K1100 seemes to be worse than the K100, the K75 runs smoothest. Must say I find the vibration is within limits on mine, maybe it helps that the handlebar mounting rubbers are worn?

Regarding my mirrors... the primer was white. The spraycan illuminating green ran out of paint before the job was done

I pretend to be colorblind :-)

  • I had the same problem on mine too.

I cleaned it up just using an electrical connection cleaning / degreasing spray.

  • Mad Stu,

Yes, I used an electrical connection cleaning spray as well now, since the problem kept on returning. Now it is better, but not 100%. Every now and then the connection requires another 'sprayjob'. I can live with it.

  • @camel747 used to own a k100 8v , yes, it numbed hands, feet and but. A k75 apparently has a balance shaft and is smooth as silk

  • Thanks for this tip!

  • @itshildo Glad you sorted it out.

  • Time for a valve adjustment sport!

  • @itshildo I already replaced the absorbing rubbers, and did a whole list of other counter vibration measures. Just one or two more to go, and then I'll either accept it or sell it. Problem is though, I just don't know how much vibration is normal. Thanks for the reply though, much appreciated. As for riding around with socially inacceptable colors: That shows guts:)

  • Yes, I have made the sprayjob a part of my regular service routine.

Unfortunately I'm currently having some problems with mine and it wont fire up now. I've elminated a few common problems. I'll be checking the TPS tomorrow. Hopefully I'll have it fixed soon as I'm heading down to France on it next month, plus was planning to go to the Elefantentreffen next January on it.
