Partial Law is part of my forthcoming album (Take it eazy, ya habibi) that blends folk & faith under the banner of 'Alternate Beats: voices of passion & protest'. This song asks judiciary to have heart & humour & let democracy breathe! Arshed Bhatti owns all the copy rights.
Song's casual translation & lyrics in Roman:
Where should we go and lament; who should we complain to!
Writing about the miscarriages of justice, my pen has run out of ink.
The gist of Judiciary's 60 years' story: They sold verdicts for money; always bowed before the men on horseback. Now, as democracy is taking roots, they are out to uproot it with a reckless roar.
Oscillating between 'doctrine of necessity' & 'basic framework' stances, they always took oath on PCO! They endorse Martial Law; promote Partial Law & partial application of Rule of Law is a joke!
Pledges of justice are hazy & elusive. Lawyers' job is to complicate cases; lower court judges are corrupt to the core; High Court judges are shamelessly partial; SC judges are hostile & arrogant. The justice system torments the masses. Ignoring the backlog of 30,000 cases, the SC spent 3 years on 6 cases! CJ is stalking the President as self-ascribed watchdog. Under the pretention of safeguarding Constitution, harping the NRO refrain, Judiciary thwarts the executive like heavy fog impedes traffic on Motorway. Oh my God, my lord commits fraud.
Women & minorities; the innocent & helpless; farmers & labourer, all are scared of the courts. The powerless & oppressed, the voiceless complainants, the muted & the hapless are telling these courts:
Your institution is not supra-constitution; your daily tension is all about attracting media's attention. Your suo moto actions & selection of your constitutional petitions invite our candid reaction: Oh my God, my lord commits fraud. Oh my God, my lord is total fraud!
Please cover your slips, learn judicious tactics, make anti-democratic roars occasional. Suo Moto actions have never brought prosperity anywhere in the world. My noise (song) is appeal for sound judgment, larger heart & some sense of humour, dear Mr. Chief Justice!
