Proper Blackjack Card Placement

GamingInstructor.com example of "proper card placement" showing all pips. Although traditional procedure calls for placing the top card over the lower left quarter of the card below, showing all pips whenever possible is best practice.

If you aim to only cover the lower left quarter or even a "postage stamp" size portion of the bottom card, human error dictates you will often cover too much of the cards. In the event of a misplaced card while attempting to show all pips the cards should still be readable within traditional standards.

Showing all pips enables surveillance and the floor supervisor to clearly read the hand to make correct decisions. It also makes your game look better. Smooth and accurate is better than fast and sloppy.

Also note proper walking the game, card totaling for the players and prompting the players to act.

he has near perfect card placement. can you give any advice or make a vid about proper card placement. I have been dealing six months and struggle with pulling the cards and placing them well. also should you only begin walking your game after you place all of the cards or do you start walking as soon as a new deal begins?

@geneviv81 Begin walking your game after everyone, including the dealer, has received their first two cards. Due to some table configurations, walking your game is not always possible. There may be a shuffle machine or computer attached to the table which could interfere with the dealer's ability to move around.

Ideally, tables should be set up with a clear path to the dealer's left. That is, shufflers and computers should be to the dealer's right so as to not obstruct the ability to walk.

My students knew that I taught some techniques which I did not personally prefer or agree with, but, they needed to develop their skills to be adaptable given the variety in casino procedures. Some things are easier to stop than to start. For instance, splashing cheques or left handed delivery.

Your supposed to use your right hand for the delivery of all the cards. You only use your left hand to deliver hit cards for spots 1 and 2. Also, what the hell was that camera trick when that 15 dollar bet drew to 21?, I saw a card burned b4 she got it.

@CHASEDONKYFISH I've worked in several casinos where seats 1 & 2 were delivered all cards with the left hand. I've worked in a casino were every card was delivered with the right hand and others allow the dealer to choose.

Many casinos deliver the first 2 cards with the right hand and then hit seats 1 & 2 with the left and the rest with the right.

The card that was burned was a blue cut card.

Rules & procedures vary widely. No matter what I teach, someone will say it's wrong.

Although there are rare players who do not like it, card totaling for the players is generally accepted to be a courtesy and a sign of a good dealer.

t in the 12 casinos where I dealt Blackjack, card totaling was both appreciated by players and required by many casinos. Doing it is far more likely to get the dealer tipped than not doing it.

Card totaling prompts players to act and keeps the game moving. A quick paced, rhythmic game is what most people, and the casino, want.

what I think is a little bit odd is that you place the cards next to the betting area, Casinos I've been to place the cards on the insurance line. Also I found it a bit difficult to deal because you have to watch out that you don't accidentally touch the chips and when dealing and removing the cards, you can't use the "swipe" technique to remove them.

the corner pips can be covered because they are duplicated in three other areas of the card. on the ten you can cover the left pip for example

I know there are many different procedures. Its just more smoother for the dealer if he delivers all cards with his right hand except hit cards for spots one and 2. And the dealers first card should be faced up to speed up the game also. I just like to deal that way, cuz its a lot faster, I think on a good table I can deal 200 hands an hour.
