UVU: Gordon S. Wood Pulitzer Prize-Winning Author

Pulitzer Prize-winning author and historian Gordon S. Wood will be the first lecturer in what will be the inaugural, annual Presidential Lecture Series at UVU.

Wood will be speaking on two of his books, Empire of Liberty: A History of the Early Republic, 1789-1815 and Revolutionary Characters: What Made the Founders Different.

Gordon Wood is one of the premiere historians of early America. His impact on the study of history in this country has been profound. It will be an honor to have a scholar of his stature come spend time with Utah Valley University faculty and students. We also welcome community members to attend his public lecture. It promises to be a most engaging event. I could not be more delighted that Professor Wood will be providing the inaugural lecture of the Presidential Lecture Series I am instituting.

Wood is a professor of history emeritus at Brown University and an Alva O. Way University professor. He is the author of Creation of the American Republic, 1776-1787 which won the Bancroft Prize and the John H. Dunning Prize in 1970; and The Radicalism of the American Revolution, which won the Pulitzer Prize for history and the Ralph Waldo Emerson Prize in 1993. Wood has received numerous other awards and accolades for his academic contributions.

The Presidential Lecture Series is a new initiative to help enhance the academic exchange on campus by bringing in some of the nations very best scholars to speak to UVU faculty, staff and students.
