Par Par Lay, a comedian in Burma, was imprisoned by the military junta for 5 years for performing a satire about them. On his release the junta prevented him and his A-Nyient troupe called the Moustache Brothers from performing for Burmese people. The Moustache Brothers bravely continued their traditional performance for foreigners.
In September 2007 Par Par Lay was again arrested for giving alms to monks protesting about the junta's terrible human rights record and he has not been heard of since.
This is an example of the junta's terrible human rights record, preventing freedom of speech for writers, actors and performers.
