    It was 1967, and on public television. WQED in Pittsburgh likely didn't have the cash for a color camera back then. Not an art thing, it's a money thing.

    back in "67 there was still a lot of black and white shows. Especially the ones trying to keep production cost down. I would bet half of the people in the US didn't even have color TVs then.

    That doesn't even make any since. The world has color in it. A camera would have to be pretty technologically to take the color away. It would be easier to build a color camera. That's just common since.
