John Pascuzzi, Steve Sklar, and Dr. Richard Grossman performing a song I wrote a couple years ago for an organization aimed at eliminating the practice of using children as soldiers. Steve and Richard had never heard the song before we played it, and jumped in after the 1st verse with Didgeridoo and Mouth Harp and made it all seem too easy, which is what happens when you get to play with seasoned musicians like them, thanks guys! Steve Sklar performs some Throat Singing in the introduction.

Having never played together as a group before, the 3 of us had about an hour to sketch out a framework for a 2-hour live show that was being filmed and recorded, and about 20 minutes of rehearsal time. Almost entirely an improvisational concert, one of us would take the lead on an idea, while the other two would support the effort musically.

During the concert, Steve Sklar performed vocals (Throat Singing), played Guitar, Igil, Didgeridoo, Singing Bowls, Ocean Harp, and Gong.

John Pascuzzi played the Tuvan igil, Hang Drum (Hang), and Waterphone.

Dr. Richard Grossman sang some vocals, and also played a number of various instruments (Conch, Mouth Harps, Rainsticks, Shakers, Gong solo, etc) and provided soundscapes and ambient sounds, similar to his solo Sound Journey concert experiences.

  • THIS IS FUCKING AWESOME D:

  • @throll2008 Well thanks !!

  • I will never get tired of listening to this music. It's gotten me to think of writing again on my blog. Would you like to be the next subject of my blog? It's a shame such beautiful music goes unnoticed.

  • @Raevynschylde Thanks very much WeasalGal :) Sure, when you fell like writing something sometime, let me know and we can make it happen ! -- John

  • This set up right here is almost exactly something I've been trying to create for a very long time now. I can now use this video as reference for the sound I'm going for with my new band. Thank you so much for posting this; it's amazing!

  • @MrZah Very cool MrZah, happy we were able to provide a little spark of inspiration for you, keep me posted on what you come up with in the future! -- John

  • @oddmusic WOOOOOOOOOOOOW, that was so awesome, I'm on the same page or somewhat on the same page as MrZah, i wanted to hear something like this, there are other combos i want to hear but this is the main one, thanks.

    Balance and Open Mindedness.

  • you guys sound awesome , the jaw harp needs to be a little more heard.

  • pitches and rhythms not so different from western music. instrumentation is of course different but still horn and strings. some musical differences are cultural but harmonics are science so as long a we are human and have human ears all or at least the vast majority of music should be enjoyable by all. Our choice! and my choice is to check out as much as possible.

  • Very nice!!!

    Thanks
