LA MARCHE DES ESCLAVES *

10 MAI: Journée nationale des mémoires des traites négrières, de l'esclavage et de leurs abolitions.

Pour être en phase avec ce rendez-vous que la France a avec son Histoire, et pour réconcilier la République avec sa mémoire et ses "oubliés", un collectif spontané "Marche des esclaves" a organisé le 09 mai 2006 une marche silencieuse "en tenue d'esclave" dans les rues de Nantes, où se sont déroulées quelques scènes évocatrices de la traite négrière et de l'esclavage. A la suite de cet événement inédit, un film a été réalisé.

-In link with the national event of the 'Memorial Day of slave trade, of slavery and their abolitions' the 10th of May, a spontaneous Collective was created in Nantes with the goal of making this day "the start of an essential event meant to last, in French conscience, French memory and in school, university and cultural linked practices in French society"(Christiane Taubira)
Nantes, more than any other city in France, has a dominating place in this day of collective, painful and for a long time hidden memory.
So to allow the City to be in sync with this first assumptional meeting that France has with its colonial history and its "forgotten", the Collective " March of the slaves " organized on May 09th, 2006 from 6 pm till 8 pm a silent march in " slave's outfits " in the streets of Nantes, with a meeting on the 'Place du Commerce' - where were performed some suggestive scenes of the slave trade and the slavery.
To protect the spirit of this March and to make it the first of many, a structure was organized by the initiators of this first action. And so " Passerelle Noire " was created. This association has for concern to facilitate the encounter of the various black communities (Africa, the Carribbean islands), to promote their respective cultures, to accompany projects to emphasize them and to organize every year, to the day before the Commemoration of abolition a "March of the slaves" -- which is one of its axes of priority actions.
Following this first March a documentary was realized, retracing the genesis, the March itself and the accomplishment of this action. A contribution to the work of remindness, necessary to reconciliate France with its History, the republic with its memory and the Black people with themselves.

Officially the land name was Ayiti or Ayti meaning flower of High land, that name was because of the land looks. So I think they should rename the country of its original name Ayiti
