The centrifugal forces and laws of inertia are pushed to the limits as the big driver beams repeat their torturous cycles. Those laws limited the rail speed of steam powered piston Locos like this. Wonderful to experience that sound again. During the WWII years, my tiny loft bedroom was 1500 feet from the tracks as these iron marvels thundered past in the dark of night.. Winter below zero nights brought every mechanical link and rail sound into my room. Oh Lordy I miss that period of time.

@Fatality654 Usually you will see the thing going an average of 30 to 40 MPH, but it can easily go up to 70MPH, but it rarely happens because even streight out of the maker, it was a long stop to slow it down going that fast. 70 Years of age aren't going to help either.

What I love about the age of steam was locomotives like this were designed and built without computers, auto-cad drafting, CNC milling machines. Truly a tribute to an area when people had to think and do using their own brains and hands!
