"Jon plays harpsichord on this track, which is a love song, sort
of squeezed into the format of a twelve bar blues. The middle
section is a descending chromatic sequence which is intended to
give a sort of "slowing down" effect."

Deep Purple - Blind

I see reflections in the water
Autumn colours, summer's daughter
And as as the year is growing older
I see winter on my shoulder
I stand in the haze
Watching stormy ripples grow on my own
Never knew your needing
Till I found myself standing here alone

And in the water, such a sad face
Slowly drowning, such a sad face
If only I could change the seasons
Like a poet, I've my reasons
It started to snow in the middle of July
Wonder why
Never did understand you
My sorrow is hanging in the grey sky

In the summer days we flew to the sun
On melting wings
But the seasons changed to fast
Leave us all behind

But then the stone fell on the water
Putting end to summer's daughter
And me, I turn away remembering
All the seasons, such a sad thing
It started to rain in the middle of the sun
Winter's begun

Never did understand you
My sorrow is hanging in the grey sky

In the summer days we flew to the sun
On melting wings
But the seasons changed to fast
Leave us all behind

  • There is one error in this video. They show Glover and Gillan on the pictures. This was the period with Rod Evans and Nicky Simper. This is not a big case however. This tune is the best from this first period of DP together with the tune April.

    I Know

  • This song is soooo beautiful and underrated. Compare this masterpiece for example with the crap from Justin B, Lady Gaga and Rianna

    I Agree

  • Thanks for posting this. Deep Purple's 3rd album is one of their best. This song is perfect - makes me think of the countryside. I even think The Stranglers were prompted to write Golden Brown by hearing this gem.

  • "Zamiast Blackmoore'a miał być Wateeers,

z Gillanem nagrali, Smoke on the Water"!

  • like pink floyd a much better band in the early years

  • Back when you had to be badass to write music

  • What a great song. It's really surprising it's not more famous. Ritchie using wah-wah... pretty different sound And Lord's solo... My goodness, it's hypnotizing.

I love this progression and baroque feel of the harpsichord .

  • Orgasm from 4:33

  • I commend the efforts of anyone being as fanboyish to deep purple as I. But I need to say i like Yanka Dyagileva too.

  • @rkj1963 don't bother! Let them do what they will! Anyway, this was a time when musicians could take chances and recording companies weren't led by accountants

  • 3:59 Just imagine Mozart would have known how well his harpsichord would have gone with a nice set of drums and a bass... Oh well, thank god Deep Purple did. This is one of my favourite pieces of music ever.

  • 2:19 :P

  • Evans, Paice and Blackmore are awesome on this track !
