The Struma- A Never Ending Sadness

The Black Sea is known for its terrible dark political history.
The rickety ship Struma, the Exodus of immigrants from Romania, became the disaster of the illegal immigration to Israel. The beginning was full of hopes, which turned out to be disastrous in the end.. In between, there was the tremendous suffering for two months of 769 intelligent and previously rich people, the best of Romanian Jewry.
The immigrants were locked up on the broken, tiny and crowded ship, in mid sea, hardly suited for 100 people, in inhumane conditions. The video tells the story of my uncle, Bertold Avner and his wife Messalina, who wanted to build their home in Israel, but never reached their destination.
The place of their burial is unknown - even today. The location of the sinking of the ship, has been kept a secret by the Turkish government --lest there is still some gold hidden in the remains of the ship ......
