  • The reason military planes used (or possibly still use) tubes rather than transistors or integrated circuitry is that a vacuum-tube system will still function after experiencing the electro-magnetic pulse (EMP) of a nuclear explosion. Everything else electronic from an FA-18 to your pocket calculator will be toast, except maybe your grandmother's four-cubic-foot radio... because it's got valves in it too.

  • I read that Russian jet Electronic technology is still using tubes; both the Sovtek EL34 and a variety of Svenlanta 12AX7 all wired in series?

That is what i read in the Chernoble Herald.

The latter has been noted as a radiant newspaper!

I was at an airshow in Keiv last year, i like how all the pilots approach the aircraft, salut it then reach in their pocket and take a hugh slurp of Vodka!

    Wow, that impressed me tremendously!

  • you people are stupid first off US has more aircraft accident of any nation and Russian technology is definatly not crapy let me tell you wy because the Americans built Russian components under license from Russia the JSF VSTOL system is Russian the ejection seat whitch pulls 20Gs is Russias and right now Russian jet engines are atleat 10 years ahead of the world heard of AL-41 makes the Raptors engines look ancient.

  • How many Russian built passenger planes have crashed in the last few years. They can't even get that right, so I wouldn't place too much faith in their fighters. Especially against the raptor.

The air force sent 5 experienced raptor pilots up in f-15's against one single raptor. It shot down all 5 before any of them saw the it. It is by no means a fighter to dismiss.

  • hmm russia might have good shit but, man...they still got that crappy communist quality hardware. i mean look at the SU as it pushes full throttle, the engines appear to be shaky and not balanced. its little things like that where american defense companies prevail. sorry to all the americans who are like OH RUSSIAN FIGHTER JETS ARE SO GOOD, but man, im sticking by the american stuff for now.

  • @Sniperontheroof - Where the hell did you get that from? This is the kind of thing that makes me want to not be American-the utter and blind pride, with nothing to back it up. A squadron of Russian jets would incinerate an F14 or an F22..and not just one. Plus, Russia has some of the best pilots in the world.

  • I SU want one.

  • not to be a dick but russian fighter jets oh say a squadron would get rocked hard by one f-14d...let alone a raptor(f-22)

  • Just doesn't look right, waaay to big for an aircraft carrier and the F-18 looks a lot more clean with it's wings up.

  • i love u
