  • shows you don't need to be overweight or have a receeding chin/ small jaw to have sleep apnea. certainly sounds like a better alternative than the cpap, which I don't want to get. Are there any possible adverse complications from wearing the appliance?

  • @leatherhead57 Most patients have no adverse complications with this particular appliance. Call the office if you would like to discuss specifics.

  • lucky for you to be a mouth breather. im a nose breather so this wouldnt work at all. im getting my CPAP monday and am looking forward to it.i did the sleep study, stopped breathing at least 190 times that night and also have week breathing in between. after i used the CPAP at the sleep study, i felt AMAZING when i woke up and the whole day.

  • @80amysue

He is a nasal breather. Oral appliances work very well on patients who breathe through their noses. I hope your CPAP works for you

  • What was his apnea idex while wearing the device?

  • @ruthven78

  • I have sleep apnea. I have used a CPap for over 13 years. It changed my life. People who say they cannot get used to a cpap machine usually don't try hard enough. Sometimes the mask fit is poor and air escapes causing noise. Also some machines are better than others.

Don't give up. Don't say, "I can't get used to this" Say, "I will get used to this." It could save your life.

  • @80amysue - doesnt matter which way you breathe, the obstruction is in the throat, but cpap is the most effective with oral appliances the next most effective. Not everyone is able to tolerate CPAP, same is true for oral appliances, and the studies show CPAP as having a higher success rate.....not saying that oral appliances are not successful....for those who dont tolerate CPAP, i recommend the oral appliance or provent.
