This is a shorter, edited version of the color closing credits from Viacom's syndication package as shown in the early 1990's. PLEASE NOTE: Fair use and educational value on TV History are the purpose of this posting, enjoy!

  • What was that weird image I saw at 0:04? It looked a news broadcast or something of the sort.

  • There was obviously something in the network (probably TBS) feed, but I am not sure what it was.

  • @tbone2004

Which you don't see in this video.

  • @Travis7310 - it looks like Frank Zappa to me! :)

  • I always liked the Myers Lake drawing in the right-hand corner.

Either way, this is just a peaceful and soothing set of closing credits...

But it gets ruined by the Viacom V of Doom suddenly appearing WITHOUT warning!

  • The original closing credits of the series, (which usually lasted around 40 seconds in the color episodes), as some people are aware of, featured Andy and Opie walking home from Myers Lake [with sponsor General Foods' products appearing in the lower right-hand corner of the screen]. In the daytime network/syndicated version, a full one minute rendition of the theme was heard, with a small drawing of Mayberry's main street in the right-hand corner. Sometimes, a shorter version was used.
