They have even released the classic Gamera films on blu-ray in Japan as well. Since Japan has the same region coding for blu-ray as the United States, I very well may import them; especially vs. Viras (Destroy All Planets), vs. Baragon, vs. Gaos and vs. Guiron. I don't care if they don't have English subtitles.
Seems as though no one is taking the old Gamera films serious or giving them the respect they deserve. HELLO: Tokyo Shock/Media Blasters, ADV Films, Classic Media, Sony.........ANYONE!!! I love Gojira, but Gamera deserves more attention. I commend ADV films for releasing Shusuke Kaneko's awesome late 90's Gamera trilogy. Tokyo Shock/Media Blasters released "Gamera The Brave" which was also cool. But we need the classic Gamera films released properly; like they did in Japan.
It is shame that all of the classic Gamera films were only released in widescreen on dvd only in Japan on region 2. In the USA, we have only gotten grainy English dub versions. "Destroy All Planets" was a good and creepy Gamera film. I was considering ordering the region 2 box sets, but there are pretty expensive. Imagine Gamera vs. Gaos, vs. Guiron, vs. Jigar (Monster X), vs. Barugon and vs. Viras (Destroy All Planets) in 16:9 anamorphic widescreen, remastered and in Japanese with subtitles.
if your a gamera fan you must go to ebay and bid on gamera collection all 8 kaiju films only $10.00 plus shipping bidding ends 7/26/11
