Pancake coil resonance #2
In this video, I use a pair of bifilar wound pancake coils (Tesla design) that are stacked on top of each other in close proximity because the coils are made from speaker wire. See my #12 video for how I made this stacked bifilar coil at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=31B7HTdhat4

Interesting to note that the inductance of either one of the bifilar pancake coils is 60uH, but when connected together, the inductance is over 240uH.

I hooked the two bifilars together because I could not drive the frequency high enough to find a resonance point with the 1MHz signal generator using a single 60uH bifilar coil as the primary. (more inductance = lower frequency)

In the video, I use this "short stack" of bifilar pancake coils as a primary with a 15v to 20v P-P square wave signal at different frequencies.

I find the resonant frequency using two different secondary coils, a 3mH pancake coil and a 97mH solenoid coil.

  • Thanks for the tips. Will look into those methods for dialing in resonance. I have more than a handful of coils to try this on.

Hi! I offer a way of research of disk coils. Try pleas. A magnet - Russian look .

I hope it to you it will be useful. It is very interesting to me as the trial magnet in the field Вifilyr disk coil will behave. Look about this method of video on my channel.

  • @znykin Hi, Thank you for sharing the idea of using a magnet. In your video how is the coil being pulsed ? Is the frequency near resonance ? Your English is very good. Sorry I have no Russian skills.

  • This is how Fuel Cell builders get their resonance frequencies by doing this type of scan. Dan Danforth Fuel Cell who replicated Stanley Meyer cells used multiple resonant frequencies, he just overlayed different resonant frequencies from his scans in parallel but they only'd work with his coils. So everyone that builds any coils for transmission of power or fuel cells has to dial into resonance themselves. Also reverse the field polarity of the second coil, just turn it upside down to get nsns!

  • An easy way to get resonance is to use tone generator, I have Test Tone Portable & NHC Tone Generator software, get these online for FREE. Use to power primary coil as a Freq/Gen & do a SQUARE WAVE Frequency Scan from 5hz to 20 000hz and just have an led on your secondary output- It'll be really bright when you find a few resonance peaks, the highest one will be the Scalar feild radiating outwards as a Standing Wave. Save the signal as a wave & use $20. MP3 player as Freq/Gen to resonate coil.

  • Tesla would have been proud of your attempts. This was good :)

  • ... the assumption is that somewhere above full scale with the 10x probe would probably be too much. Will try to restrain my curiosity and maybey use a pickup coil as tubemp777 suggested below...

  • Happy Birthday Tesla!!

Hey, does it works like a joule thief circuit?

    Thanks!!

    Keep it coming!!
