If someone ever shot my dog, I'd be one inconsolable lump. Also, haven't there been cases of people getting serious charges including jail time for injuring/killing police dogs? So why is it that a cop can kill my dog and only get a $2000 fine?

and fire the chief of police as well as the trigger happy cops. there are a lot of great police out there but it only takes one bully and the credibility of the force is gone.
