Apparently the french trampled their own men into the mud. A lot of them were knights in heavy armour who couldnt get out of it. The french had genoese crossbowmen but the rate of fire was perhaps 2 shots a minute, the crossbows had to be cranked. The english archers could fire off about 10-12 shots a minute and were taught from a very early age. You needed terific upper body strength jus to draw a longbow.
what's with all the spooky music. This is one of those clips where you just have to scream 'get on with it'. If you want a concise retelling of the battle, read John Keegan's The Face of Battle. He looks at 3 battles, all from roughly the same area, Agincourt, Waterloo and the Somme. Quite informative. As far as the French being stupid, let's remember, they did win the war.
Food for thought - English shot an average of 1,000 arrows per second. They would have run out of arrows (and did) in the first 5 minutes. I think the mud that the French had to cross had more to do with the outcome
@roswellferrets The mud, the stakes pressed against the infantry. The cavalry foolishly charged against them, you can figure out the result, since at such speed, It's very hard for a horse to manuver to such a surprise. But I agree, the longbow had a small, yet important part in the battle.
