Yeah, I was really bored. I've never made a video like this before, but I figured why not? Someone out there might find this interesting, if they can deal with my annoying voice :P
I don't know why I kept saying Anime over and over, I guess it's because of this game's art style. The art and character design were done by renowned Japanese artist, Kosuke Fujishima, after all. Known mostly for his work on the 'Tales of' series of games, he also wrote and illustrated manga and anime, such as Ah My Goddess! and You're Under Arrest. I'm vaguely familiar with his work outside of the Tales series now, but it wasn't until Tales of Symphonia came out on the GameCube that I even knew who he was. He definitely has a unique style that is instantly recognizable to all who know his work.
This game is a strategy RPG second, and a dating sim first, from what I've heard. The dating sim elements and not the battles, are what build your characters up. That's a stark contrast to most RPGs, where you battle to gain experience for your characters. Now, I didn't buy it for the dating sim element, oh no. Let me get that out of the way right now. I bought it because I'm an RPG fan first and foremost, and a casual fan of Fujishima's work second. I also picked it up because it's said to be the last "real" release for the dying PS2 console. If anything, it will definitely be the last RPG released on the system. I've also heard that it's far from the best in the series, which is a shame, but I don't have any interest in trying to import the others, so it'll have to do as my only exposure to the series. There's also a book series and a TV series. I may check them out sooner or later.
Originally released in 2005 in Japan, we're just now getting this game (April 2010 at the time of this video). The series started way back in 1996 on the Sega Saturn console. There have been a few games between that one and this one, but none of them have come across the pond, until now, 14 years later.
This game is also available on the Wii, but without the extras found in the PS2's Premium box set. It retails for $29.99, which is $10 less than the PS2 version. IMO, the PS2's extras are easily worth the extra $10, so if you have both consoles, pick up the PS2 version. It's worth it.
I have 3 sealed copies of the ps2 version that I'm holding onto.
