Watch this video to see how Dutch mobile technology specialist MobiDM has used Afaria to develop an offering MobiDM - to secure, back-up data, deploy applications and configure Windows Mobile devices all in a way that doesn't technically involve or challenge the mobile workers. MobiDM is a mobile platform that secures and minimizes risk on smart phones such as Blackberrys, iPhones , Samsungs and more.
We are the people behind MobiDM. We have a background in high security. We have security devices for members of Parliament, Dutch Government, large enterprise, police and started with a device management service called MobiDM. In doing these projects for government and large enterprise, we soon found out that securing and minimizing risk on Smart Phones was only half of the story. Most organizations have a mixed field of devices from Symbian to Blackberry to Windows mobile devices and it is increasingly difficult to manage these devices in an optimal way. It was our objective to create a platform that would make it very simple to use, very cheap to use and without interfering or bothering the user. When we selected technology to build this service, we looked at several platforms. As a matter of fact, we looked at 12 different manufacturers. In the end, it was only Sybase iAnywhere that was capable of delivering a multi-platform strategy in a SAS service. In cooperation with Sybase iAnywhere, we developed this new service called, MobiDM. We put a portal and found Afaria. Afaria is the best product in the industry because it has so many functions in it. We decided to develop a portal interface that makes device management just as easy as electronic banking.
Vodaphone is a supplier of total telecommunications where we go beyond mobile connectivity. Smart Phones like Blackberry, Windows Mobile or Symbian, they have opportunities like you used to have on your laptop. So its important that Smart Phones are controlled in a secure way by the management of your organization. Mobile Device Management is a vital part of our Windows Mobile email solution. A software as a service solution aimed at our SME customers. Mobile Device Management gives us the opportunity to offer our customers control, management and security of their Smart Phones with others in field, including settings for mobile connectivity from their Smart Phones to the ICT environment. Mobile Device Management supports the productivity of the mobile m3s with other in the field including a user-friendly portal for an attractive, predictable cost per month. So Vodaphone is very enthusiastic about Mobile Device Management.
All the functionality that you have come to know from Afaria has been put in a portal interface that allows for multi-tennancy. People can manage their devices, take a back-up of the device, can configure the devices, send software, send settings to the mail server and any configurations that you want to do, you can do from a web interface. The benefits of using MobiDM Service are two-fold. For the IT Manager, he has a very simple to use device management service that can be used any time, any place without ever to install additional hardware or software. For the end user, the end user he has peace of mind. He does not have to worry about backup, restore or abuse of his information. It is all managed in the background. Together with Sybase iAnywhere where we built the first ever software as a service for Mobile Device Management, were putting this out in the market with partners like Vodaphone and Capgemini. Going forward, we believe there will be more mobile devices than there will be PCs. We want to be able to manage all of these devices with the technology of Sybase iAnywhere. Enterprises that have been using this technology with our MobiDM.com services we will be able to also service small organizations.
