It was a time where there were no little hands for robots, but today those competitions should be organized different: first body fight, then same size real sword fight, then who can run faster and sit in a wheeled platform or little car, then deposit a mail in a box with it hands, then achieve some stairs and climb and finally open a door in a little house or apartment, this new kind of competition will develop the Humanoid Robot much better and can prepare them for real tasks.:-)

It seems like a fine line- one of the great things about this compatition is everyone constantly upgrading and trying to 1up the last guy. It has made huge leaps in the robots and their techneaks... On the other hand I do really like the huminoid looking robots and it would be a shame for it to evolve away from that... Maybe if there was a non humanoid byped class???
