Students, parents, teachers, and union representatives rallied before the start of the school day on Dec. 17 to protest against plans to close MS 399, the Elizabeth Barrett Browning School, in the Bronx. Demonstrators held signs that read Dont close our school and Arbitrary and unfair, and chanted Phase out Klein, not 399! referring to Schools Chancellor Joel I. Klein.
District 10 Representative Andrew Pallotta, using a megaphone to address the crowd, said, The United Federation of Teachers is here to continue to support the school, the students; and as you go in today, students, look at your teachers. They are here for you.
