Merrit Stevens was a really great teacher..i live in New Hampshire but got out there to Ohio in the mid 80's when Merritt brought Nariyama sensei over and then Merritt came out here for a seminar a few years later..At that point he wasnt doing too well, but even now 20 years later those trainings are still very vivid. I have some video he shot teaching 17 tecniqes, ill try to Post it..

Are Sweeps, or Koshi's not allowed?
frogleg13 2 years ago
Nope, sadly. I would have done much better at the world games if they were!
I had forgotten the old man sweeps me in this video. That old cheatin b****, never wanted to lose to me :-p.
Miss you Keith...
But anyway, yeah, no koshi waza, or kyeshi(sp)/sacrifice techniques allowed anymore. Keeps the number of injuries down and encourages more realistic techniques (not that people don't still do/get away with stupid waza)

Nice. Moe Stevens' dojo is here in central Ohio. There are several places that are closer, but I'm still thinking of checking his place out.
