This is a great song about how all their friends just followed the crowd; followed parents, friends, and accepted what they did.
But the 3 Chicks say they never could be "followers". They had to find their own way-- even if it means they had to "take the LONG way" to get what they wanted.
"It's been 2 long years now since the Top of the World came crashing down"- that's a reference to the tour named after a song, "Top of the World", which just stopped, after they made the comment about Bush
