A comparison of the Optical Image Stabilisation systems of the Panasonic TM300 and SD700.

NOTE that the difference between the two is exagerated by the fact that the SD700 is zoomed out compared to the TM300 and hence any movement will seem smaller anyway.

I'm very impressed with the OIS on my new SD700 as this video shows, in fact I'm impressed all round. The new wider angle lens is great, no need for a screw-on wide angle adapter.

  • HEY! U should do this test with MANY different cameras! =D Hook up with a video store 2 borrow each unit for a few minutes & copy the results onto your laptop! Bring in your 'plank' with the 700 on it & ask them "I want better stabilization & want to compare it to your (insert models here) camera" =) AWESOMENESS! B sure 2 compare 2 the Pentax K5 & Sony A580 & N E other very high quality HD DSLR cams =D E-Mail me when U do!

  • Not only does it have better OIS, but a higher light sensitivity and a better tone curve. HS/TM/SD700 are stellar cameras. I just wish they supported native 1080i60 at the max AVCHD data rate of 24Mbps (they only go up to 17Mbps). Downconverting from 1080p60 to 1080i60 using the included HD Writer software yields a 17Mbps file, which for all intents and purposes is just 1080p30 interlaced to 1080i60. The result is a film-like look--not good for high movement, but pleasing otherwise.

  • Wow. Sold!

  • Good idea for a test and has given me a great example of something I was not looking out for/aware of. Appreciated.

  • Is is possible to show the increase in wide angle over the older camera? I am trying to compare it to the Sony cx550's wide-angle ideally.

  • Very interesting and informative. How many video cameras do you have ? Don't tell me, it will only upset me ! I have noticed how much better image stabilisation I get from my SD700 as compared to its predecessor, a TM10. I would love to do side-by side comparisons - the low light performance comparison is striking - but my daughter has commandeered the TM10, and she isn't good at sharing her toys even for the greater good of informing the YT community!

  • Nice one. This really cuts to the chase and makes things clear.

  • Amazing review, its great to see the difference and TM700 looks amazing. I just bought the Panasonic SD60 which is quite good but when you see this I think I might need to invest in an upgrade.

    Great work

  • excellent
