Chris Talley Armstrong gives a detailed lesson on how to play Soldier's Joy on mandolin. This is a fairly simple, straight-forward arrangement suitable for beginning to intermediate players. (The Bluegrass Shack - New Athens, IL)

  • i can play bass well and banjo i am working on. how would the transition be to learn mandolin. what are those strings tuned at EADG lol.

  • @GAMEREVIEWERMAN Yes, that is correct. The mandolin and the fiddle (violin) are tuned the same. E is the 1st string and is the highest in pitch. G is the 4th string and is the lowest in pitch.

  • Thanks a lot ! There is a pretty blonde Gibson mandolin still there you could use to teach with too... See you soon. I am off to practice.

  • Oh, I get it! You're just trying to weasel another mandolin lesson out of me!

  • Well, I was just in the middle of familiarizing my new banjo with your Foggy Mountain Breakdown lesson (had to get that G lick first though) and here's the mandolin lesson requested. My new mandolin and I thank you.

  • It's a long weekend, so you'll have time for both??!!!
