  • All I know is, Bono wouldn't waste his time and effort just to make himself look good. He's just trying to help.

These guys, they take the time to help other people. Its not being who is right and who is wrong. In this case, Its all about helping. Helping the one who's in need. We don't have the GUTS to help these people, to go there and lend some hand. I appreciate the guys, who believes in these guys (Bono, Oprah, Gates, and more.) I just wish them more power.

  • Dude read up on what he's doing. You're ingnorance is embarrassing.

  • Bono gives his time and money to help and there are still "experts" who criticize him.

What do you do for the world?

Nothing big. And what is he doing?

    Just think.

  • bugger: ah... a comeback would just be too easy...

  • That's not what I said, vhuskey. The point is that someone who is making such a big noise, asking other people to dip into their pockets, should be setting the best example.

Bono is just a glory hound... another in a long line of celebrities looking for a statue of themselves.

U2's elaborate soundstage alone is worth $20 million, yet Bono refers to them as a simple rock and roll band.

Maybe they should sell it and buy some rice...

  • cadet:

    gee... congratulations!

you're more jealous, ignorant and stupid than most bono haters!

(and i suppose you think the price of a hat service could make or break the african issue)

  • u2 is a business like any other. Are you seriously suggesting that if you could find a way to lessen what you pay you would avoid it?.

Besides many of these decisions are taken by the record labels who control such matters. What remains true however is that bono and the other members of u2 are Irish citizens, so while the tax they pay as a business may be reduced nowadays, they still pay the same as every one else as individuals.

  • British people have been taxed to death over the years. You are only 17 and too young to understand the raging tax debates of previous decades.

Brits HATE paying more taxes. The poll tax was evidence of that. So get real.

Bono and his U2 chums enjoyed a "tax free" status as Irish artists for years. When the Irish govt finally changed that law, Bono and U2 bolted out of the country.

He is a hypocrite and a glory seeker.

  • Bono is not claiming to have all the answers to the africa issue, nor can he. Changes in our legislation and large campaigns such as this are one fragment of the answer. Nobody is disputing that the smaller aid agencies should carry on with the good work they do along side things like live aid. The two ideas can coexist.

  • i remember the gleneagles video. But this isn't a case of bono rattling a charity box under peoples' noses and sneering at them if they don't put enough in. This is us paying for development in Africa through taxes. Something which i don't mind paying and apparently 38 million others.

  • Are you suggesting that spending $2000 to fly a hat from one country to another is simply Bono "enjoying his wealth"?

I would suggest to you that when a celebrity puts themselves at the forefront of an international charity movement, and literally demands that people dig into their pockets to support him (see Edinburgh vid), then he should be setting an example and be held to a higher level of scrutiny.

    Don't you?
