@mastersnet18 Yeah, my mom had a Betty Crocker cook book from about 1965. It had the simple recipe for boiling eggs. It said to bring the pot to a rolling boil, place the eggs in for a certain amount of minutes (I think it was 5), then take them out and put in ice water until they cool just enough to peel, the ice water stops the cooking. They come out perfect every single time, no green or soft yokes, etc.

@clintonearlwalker i totally agree. I don't know why so many people say to let eggs stand in hot water for 15-20 min. I've been making hard boiled eggs for years and i just boil water first, then put eggs in and boil for 5-7 minutes and its done.

@ibkristykat “Make sure food has cooled down before you put it in the fridge,” says Philippa Hudson, senior lecturer in food safety at Bournemouth University.
“If the food is still hot it will raise the temperature in the fridge, which isn’t safe as it can promote bacterial growth.” So I guess it is mainly for the fridge's sake. Obviously it depends how hot the food is. I have also heard the it breaks the fridge because it is constantly having to adjust to keep a constant temp.

@ibkristykat egg yolks = high fat content. egg whites = high protein. remove the yolks if youre watching your weight
I hard boil 24 every sunday for the week, me and the kids eat them for snacks or with lunch. I'll eat as many as six at a time with only 1 of the yokes and the remaining 5 just the whites. I believe one egg white is only 17 calories and with the yoke it's 78. If that is correct that's only 163 calories. Throw in a pickle (if you still need food) and that's another 5 calories. The pickle has a lot of sodium though.

if the cholesterol in eggs is so good for you, why do people buy egg whites in a container as if the yolk is sooo bad? is there fats in the yolk that are bad despite the cholesterol being good? or am i using 2 words for the same term without knowing it? newbie here. Scooby1964 here on YouTube says NOT to eat the yolks (can't remember why) but He's NOT a nutritionist though he's working on that. He just has 30 years bodybuilding experience.
So- pray tell- yolk or no yolk?

@ibkristykat An egg is a complete protein, which means it has all of the essential amino acids that your body has to get from food-it cannot produce it. How can that be bad? However, the egg yolk does have 5 grams of fat, so I suggest limiting it to 1 egg per day depending on your daily caloric needs. And yes, the cholesterol in the yolk is the "good" kind. Thanks for the great question!
