This is when they were 'street' cool, early in London, before they were big in the USA, and changed their image to appeal to the boring American children, who in the '80s let's face it were pretty lame. This is before main street coopted 'cool' for the US masses...they didnt know shit before the internet.

You have to read between the lines but the original video made it real obvious what the song was about.

Our hero comes back to the old neighborhood and finds his Brokeback Mountain buddy has gone and gotten married. The wifey senses something amiss and is not amused. Yup.  Ol' George was telling us what he was from the beginning.

I remember the video coming out in 1982 when no one around here had ever heard of Wham!.
