@Kampy187 technically it's possible to move out of check while delivering one....a discovered check can do the trick....still though....it's a tall order to beat Data as he's stronger than Houdini and Rybka combined....he must've threw the game or something (why?I dunno lol)

@CerebralAssassin1983 but don't you see she's moving a different piece to a different platform while the king is still checked by the rook? She wouldn't be moving out of check so it's not possible.

I am not quite sure how to play tri-dimensional chess but when Data checks, there should only be three options of escape: capture the attacking piece, interpose, or moving the king to a safe square. She does none of those options so wouldn't her king still be in check, aka ILLEGAL MOVE!

i've always disliked this scene...never cared for the character of troi..and the fact that she beat data is just ridiculous.

@Kampy187, @CerebralAssassin1983 The game has a different set of rules and playuing its a 3d chess board, the rules apply are different. also, this is a replica out of spock vs james kirk in the original.

In the episode from TOS "Charlie X" Kirk moves a piece that is not his king. He does not capture Spock's knight, and in no way obstructs the path of the knight yet wins makes check mate his next move. I think it is some rule specific to Tri-D chess

@Kampy187 Well if recall correctly, the original scene in the original series of 3D chess had Spock and his opponent moving their pieces around at random as if the game was legit, I figure its the same thing here even if it is a little more obvious.
