Reformed Jail - India

Pitiful faces peer from the bars of overcrowded cells in one of India's most notorious jails. Delhi's Tihar Jail has almost 9,000 prisoners and, until recently, some of India's most appalling conditions. Now, thanks to a radical reformer called Keran Bedi, Tihar is a model for all India to follow. Bedi is famous for both her prison reform and her 'larger than life' personality. Critics call her an attention seeker who hides the facts. A Canadian woman prisoner speaks of two months of hell in Tihar - conditions there still shock the West. Yet, interviews with Bedi and other prisoners offer hope where hope has always been in short supply.

I have been to India and the conditions I've seen some people live in would commit crimes to get into a prison like this, counter productive in my opinion

... and this is just one of the better jails.

If you saw what an average jail looked like, you'd puke. you could be waiting for the simplest of trials upwards of a year. in that time you either kill to survive or you are beaten , raped or tortured. Sleep while standing, filth...

.

And God help you id you're a white man in there, guards hate you, inmates will try to kill you the first day.

all these idiots who think this is somehow better than our jails should honestly go live in India.
