The entire video footage was taken in Tutuila American Samoa, Dec., 2006. "O Ai Lou Igoa" reflects the contrasting difference how Samoans and palagis derive personal information on a first time meeting basis. Samoans ask what famly or parents name. Palagi ask what do you do? (meaning what job). Samoans initial obtaining/accessing of personal information starts from parents/family, while a palagi ask what kind of job you do. So Samoans profiling starts from a holistic and "it takes a village" approach, while a palagi profile a persona base on the kind of job they do. There is no suggestion here which approach is better, I'm just trying to put the title and the message of the song in perspective. Samoans approach "O ai Lou Igoa, poo O Ai lou Aiga" denotes the need of the person to seek familial connectivity and cultural/village/family matai status. This what made these classic groups such as Apollo XI, Penina O Tiafau, Tolu Fualaau, Matagi Mai Sasae etc.. extremely fascinating are the lyrics and their deep cultural significance.
Apollo 11, was the first true Amerian Samoan musical group that became famous in the 1960s and the 1970s in both Samoa. Led by Faanu Tuanaitau of Pavaiai in Tutuila American Samoa. This CD was recorded at the renown Taupou Recording Studio in Hawaii, USA. This is their first official CD recording. Faanu Tuanaitau now resides in Sacramento, California USA.
