magnificent... and me thinks gene kelly sure fills out that tight lavender t-shirt rather well.

What a masterpiece! Musicals at their best, original, touching, traditional of our American heritage. Gene's choreography on Rogers' ballet is powerful and moving. His rendition with Vera expresses so much sensuality while abiding by the strict Hayes' code. Thank you so much for the story behind the production and for sharing this work of art with the newer generation. You are great! Lancelot

@mca1218 I'm guessing not so cool.

@san5a89 Gene Kelly choreographed this version - the original version (for Broadway) was choreographed bt George Balanchine and that is the version more often performed today. Both are great.

@TheJamile speaking of 'Glee,' how cool would it be to see Heather Morris (Brittany) and Harry Shum (Mike) re-create this dance? They'd rock!!

Now THAT's Dancing!

What wonderful actors Gene Kelly and Vera-Ellen are as well! Vera-Ellen is so convincing as a siren that you forget how fragile and tiny she really was. And there are moments watching the strutting, muscular Kelly when you can't help but think of Brando's early virility. Tremendous.

It might be called jazz ballet.

This is beautiful and memerising. What style of dance would this be called?

@nbguitar90 I second that. This is Talent.

Vera Ellen was great because not only could she tap as well as the legendary Ginger Rogers and Eleanor Powell, she could do great modern jazz and ballet moves as well as the amazing Cyd Charisse. She was so versatile.

This is an outstanding display of talent and athleticism. I have loved it ever since I first saw it in the movie.
Ha! ha! ha! I don't think Vera was too upset about those things - it's all part of the storyline ! ;-)

Vera Ellen was a wonderful dancer. I was very sad to read that she suffered from anorexia nervosa and had a child who died from SIDS. You would never know it from watching her in this scene.

Me too! The symptoms of her anorexia nervosa started to show after she made the 1952 movie "The Belle of New York".
