Kaikoura is widely known as the whale watching capital of New Zealand. Unfortunately they didn't want to be watched today!

After Matt finished taking photos of me for my website we headed into town via the sea front.

If youre a helicopter fan Kaikoura helicopters can take you up for a scenic flight along with some whale watching. Today the sea breeze was somewhat on the strong side for flying.

Form the railway over bridge all the way down the main street Kaikoura is lined with cafes and restaurants that will defiantly have crayfish on the menu. In english Kaikoura can be broken into Kai meaning food and koura meaning crayfish.

After lunch we headed back south towards Christchurch doing a little train spotting on the way. The main trunk line follows state highway one as it weaves around the coast.

  • I always enjoy your videos; the aviation videos because I have that interest as well and the New Zealand "places" videos because your country has always fascinated me. I hope there are many more to come.

The rail lines in this video; are they freight only or is there passenger service as well?

  • You get a few passenger trains but mostly freight. They are somewhat smaller than the ones you have in the usa!

  • Excellent footage as always.... the whispering voices in the video.. not so good.

  • That was part of the music. Probably a poor choice on my behalf.

  • I liked the video, especially the 2 little ducks in the water, and not a comment about them. they were very cute. Fun video to watch

  • It was mostly sea birds but there were a few ducks around ... :P like the 2 that got filmed.
