Trying out the new PCB prototyping setup.
I'm using a Dremel mounted on a Sherline desktop mill I retrofitted for CNC operation. The tool is a 0.2mm, 40-degree engraving cutter. Depth is about 0.08mm. EMC2/Axis is running the show.
The results here were really pleasing. The cuts were quite clean and the drill holes came out perfectly centered. Not bad for an old Dremel lashed onto the machine.

Sorry for the less-than-stellar image quality. I accidentally left the camera set on 480p, and the downsampling it does is pretty ugly.

  • I'm planning to build one of these.. do you know the part number of the dremel bit? it seems I can't find one that's small enough

  • @xorman2k7 I don't know if Dremel makes an official accessory that's suitable, but the bit I used is a 40-degree, 0.2-mm carbide engraving cutter. Ebay seems to be the best place to get them at low cost. Search there for "carbide pcb engraving" on and you'll find a nice selection. I think mine came out to about $7 for a 5-pack.
