Military dad's early return a great surprise for family

for two albuquerque boys -- being reunited with their dad at the state fair was a picture-perfect moment. valerie castro shows us what happened. brothers asa and eric ruth are following their father's footsteps, preparing for military careers. "civil air patrol is a great way for self discipline, we also do cadet programs, aerospace education and leadership." today the boys were part of military veterans day at the new mexico state fair -- the boys say it's been a tough time without their father who is serving as a staff sergeant in kuwait. "it's kind of hard to watch the news cause we're just afraid that when they come on saying another soldier died from albuquerque it's kind of hard." as the boys stood in their uniforms to take a picture to commemorate the day, a surprise snuck up behind them. "surprised? yeah, yes." "flight was very long, very long but couldn't wait to get home and surprise the boys and my wife." staff sergeant chris ruth's leave from his tour wasn't supposed to start for a few more days. but he couldn't pass up a shot at an early flight. "it makes me actually very happy, see him once more." karen ruth says the family will make the most of the next 15 days while her husband is home, even celebrating a holiday a little early -- staff sergeant ruth will return to kuwait in two weeks to finish up his third tour of duty. he will come home for good in staff sergeant ruth will return to kuwait in two weeks to finish up his third tour of duty. he will come home for good in february.
