A soundcheck of the new amPlug from Vox - the Joe Satriani Signature amPlug. I've recorded this direct to my soundcard.

Guitar used: Godin SD 22 Electric;

Just for those who are wondering if this little toy is worth paying for:

The things which struck me about this little piece of equipment:
1. Cleans up beautifully. Guitar volume knob down and you'll get a very clean sound.
2. Huge gain range - 'Midnight' Cleans to 'Souls of Distortion' Drives. Leave your gain at one, and lower your guitar volume and you'll get perfect clean sound, with a great body and texture.
3. Sweet tone through the gain range. Whether you have the gain down to one or all the way up, you can be sure you ain't gonna have a noisy/muddy distortion.
4. Nuance Responsive. Very sensitive to touch and dynamics. You'll never miss the sweet sounds of fingers or pick touching the strings, woundings, pickup and wood. Hence, we also have Crystal Clear Harmonics.
5. Creamy Lead OR Spacious Rhythm. Switching Delay FX On or Off gives a very distinctive difference in overall sound characteristic. Delay On gives great lead tone, accented mids. Leaving Delay Off gives a slightly spaced out stereo phasing. Very subtle. Rhythm playing sounds amazing with this set-up. Of course you have the Tone Knob to make subtle corrections.
6. Versatile. I couldn't believe the number of different sounds I could get just be permuting and combining these:
~ Gain Knob
~ Tone Knob
~ Guitar's Volume Knob
~ Pickups (neck, mid, bridge, combos)
~ Delay on/off

p.s.-1 I did most of this recording on 9 or 10 gain setting: INCLUDING the clean intro (with guitar volume down);

p.s.-2 Please excuse my noisy cable and bad earthing.

p.s.-3 Better, more focussed soundcheck videos coming up in time.

Thank you for watching.

  • could i use ac adaptor for tthe amplug if u dont have batteries?

  • @markway16 No. The amplug does not have jacks for alternate power sources... You could get re-chargables.

  • hello

    i have this product: i played it a litle time but i'm disapointed for this moment, because my vox amplug lead has more gain even with 1 at the level whereas the Satch's has distorsion only at the end of the gain (8-10).

    but the delay is better (longer) than the lead amplug vox

  • @phenixreturns Agreed. It's not a gain monster. But it does what it does best. The delay is very good and optimum.

  • a bit of clipping there...try turning the guirar volume down, think you my be overloading the front end of this amp ????

  • @kartikg3 how long do batteries last on these? as in how many hours of playing can I get from a standard set of batteries?

  • i have the vox metal thing how do i record on my computer? i have an audio cable but when i plug it in from the aux too mic it doesn't pic up on audacity

  • cool? but your guitar are out of tune...

  • are u using reverb or something, or just the mini vox?

  • lol thats pathetic u can replace any drumset with a casio keyboard drum beat

  • Very impressed. I'm surprised when you said the entire video had a gain setting of 9 or 10. There are really a variety of sounds this little guy can make without the need of switching the gain all the time. I like that and the delay is delaycious :)

  • nice
