Can any one sing like this any more?
====================================
MOHD RAFI introduced a new singing style markedly different from the traditional school (i.e. Saigal, Mukesh, Kishore and their followers). And he made the alternative style more popular than the traditional style so much that it became the mainstream. His followers include mahendra, anwar, sabbir, aziz, udit, sukhwinder, sonu. I think he is the most influential singer and had a greater role in the evolution of Hindi film music compared to any other singer. Helped in taking classical music to the masses. He tried different types of songs. I think many people dont know that Rafi did some yodeling too.

KK (mukesh too) could sing saigal or talat style better than rafi I agree. This is because saigal, talat and kk (and mukesh) are from the same school.
Actually kk followed saigal and if we listen to jagmag karta nikla and kk's later songs, its evident that the basic of kks singing is saigalesque and it remained like that throughout his career. He did add many things - but the skeleton --- always saigal.

  • ha ha good one !!

    but i don't agree with your description where you say Talat was from Saigal school. Talat was from school of his own.

    Mukesh & Kishore were copying saigal which is true but they both were not as good as saigal. Rafi was the most unique - never copied or even inspired from anyone.

  • Asim ..... "Chaa gaye ho"

    Such marvelous unique pearl, and in such good quality. The song is one of the most difficult composition, especially the 2nd stanza. Love this song.

    About your question: "anyone can sing like that?"

    First of all nobody is able to create such compositions anymore. These are unforgettable tunes. Aur jo rafi sahab ki awaz mein sun le.... uss ke baad kisi aur ki awaz mein acha lag hi nahi sakta.

    It's such pleasant gift u gave to me today. Thakns for sharing.

  • No one can sing like Rafi, no one !!!!!!!!
