URBAN INDIGENOUS is a documentary about Josie Dykas, a Chicago comedienne who is a mix of Yaqui, Mexican and Polish descent and searching for her Native North American roots. The filmmakers, Josie Dykas and Robyn Adams, will travel to long neglected indigenous North American communities where Josie will perform her one-woman show which deals with the conflicted identity of an Urban Indian. We will celebrate the current culture of Native America by interviewing other comedic Performing Artists, storytellers and activists and learn about the historic culture from its Elders.

In the end we aim to have a full documentary. This trailer is a recording of our road trip from Obamas house in Chicago to Obamas House in DC for the inauguration. We need further funding to travel throughout the Western states in order to expand it in the direction described above.

    Mx..

  • When someone says I'm Mexican, whoever that person is; they are trying to make an effort to say they are indigenous to this side of the world, and no where else.

The Word 'Mexican' comes from the word MExica (pronounce Mehsheka)

The Mexica were the so call Indians also know as the "Aztecs".

The Mexica never called themselves "Aztecs" or "Indians" prior to European Inavsion.
