my first bonefish - thanks to Sly Gervais, the coolest guide ever, i didnt loose it, although my backing was much too short. Next time i'll have 300 yards at least ;-). Location: Anegada, BVI. Really bad: Sly's boss didn't send me my forgotten box filled up with selfmade, perfect boneflies, although i offered a reward and asked a few times! Bad aftertaste...

  • hi nice vid. do you happen to have Sly's contact info or know where I can find him (and his boat)? I'm an avid flyfisherman, going to be in BVI and Anegada next week, can't wait!

  • @dougisnow: sly is an employee of garfield (faulk?). You'll find garfield at the anegada reef hotel (284-495-8002). Garfields Phone: 284-496-9699. Tight lines & dont forget sun block & hat ;-). Lucky guy!!!

If you meet Garfield, tell him to send me my box filled with selfmade boneflies! I lost it on his boat, he found it, but never sent it back to me, although i offered to pay for it!!! ;-) ;-(

ps. anegada is a really lost island. just great for fishing.

  • Thanks Antwort!

I just talked to Garfield and booked 2 days next week with him :-) also sounds like Sly may guide us too.

Please describe the day(s) you had with him, there are 3 of us going and we're all avid flyfishers and want to have a good time and get some good fish. :-) any advice, suggestions, would be great and appreciated and I'll also try to recover your fly box!

    regards,

    -Doug

  • @dougisnow: i just had a half day, but that was already too much, cause the sun "kills" you, if you dont have a hat on!!! I was "finished" after 2 hours and sly had to convince me to go on ;-). 3 men on one boat? To me 2 might be the max. i woud change the 2 full-days in 3 or 4 half-day-trips. Have enough water to drink (no alc!) and - VERY important - have enough backing (sly recommends 300 yds). I had about 100 and the small bones in the vid took it all. Had luck bringing the backing back.

  • very nice.

  • Fisherman. 225 yds of backing should be adequate for 7 or 8 weight reels. I suggest you check out bonefish tarpon trust (tarbone.org) for pointers on fighting bonefish. Also I saw you palming your reel, I'll bet you paid good money for your reel - use the drag, not your hand. All that said, you caught a nice fish! I'm planning a trip to Anegada in 2012 - did you get your fly box back? Sly looks like a good guide.

  • Having sailed to Anegada many times I've discovered that bonefishing is excellent right in front of the hotels dotting the beach just west of the Reefs hotel. A guide is not needed unless you're clueless.

  • ah, well i dont really eat out much, but there is one place that i find amazing, but it sounds abselutely ghetto or lame lol, its in a place called Bollo's ? or something like that, but its a supermarket that has a lunch time buffet, the food there is propper, especially the ribs... but yeah, i could ask my dad when he gets back in the island about that for you... if i remember because that is 2 weeks from now, after the sailing trip that i will have computer access.

  • You've got the point! Travelling 24 h economy with my 187 cm is no fun. The costs are not the main point. BVI islands are not cheap, but you dont need much there: wine, a steak/fish to prepare for dinner and a salad for lunch. GOING out for dinner is another thing. For Europeans the "In-Restaurants" for tourists (Piano-Bar") are a complete disappointment... Next time i hope to find places where the real natives prefer to eat. Thats always the best you can get... any ideas?

  • wow, with a travel time arround 24 hours thats got to be expensive, and then the whole family!. thats cool where you stayed, i think i know where you are talking about. every year i got for a 1 week sail arround the BVI. but its only like a 3 hour total travel time... so its much cheaper by far than what you have to do... that journey must be painfull lol
