My hamster "Alexander the Great" running in his wheel and exploring his cage. He is a Roborowski dwarf hamster. Roborowskis are very shy animals. They need a huge sand area in their cages/aquariums. As they are nocturnal-like all hamsters- they are unsuitable fit for children. In the wild hamsters run up 10km every night, so they need wheels in their cages. These wheels should be at least 20cm in diameter for dwarf hamsters and at least 27cm for syrian hamsters. When the wheels are to small, the spines of the hamsters will bend too strongly while they are running, which causes them a lot of pain. Hamsters MUST NOT be kept in small cages. They need at least 100x40cm (plains in the cage do NOT count) to stay healthy. Hamsters are NOT for cuddling. They are meant for observation only. If you're lucky you'll be able to tame your hamster but that would be an exception and not the rule. Plastic is dangerous for hamsters. Do not pit plastic toy into their cages. The plastic wheels are made out of special plastic that does not splinter when the hamsters gnaw on them.
So ein süßer Kerl. :D
