Despite its village atmosphere, there are enough sides to this European cultural and financial centre to suit every kind of visit you could wish for.

You're after romance? Amsterdam has more canals than Venice and as many bridges as bars (a thousand or so to escape into). If you are looking to soak up Dutch culture, the Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum, and Concertgebouw are all in a single Museum Quarter; and there are dozens more museums and galleries in the centre of the city to offer you inspiration.

If you want to sample the Amsterdam's famous liberalism, just follow the wide-eyed tourists to the red light district or follow your nose to the nearest coffee shop. And if you want to feast your eyes on stunning architecture, just look around you at the 17th century canal houses.

Hungry for more? There are countless international restaurants, and more than enough cafés and clubs to keep you going till your legs give way. And if they do give way, that's okay because as we said, Amsterdam is a compact city and it's not far till the next location...or to your luxuriously comfortable citizenM hotel bed. In Amsterdam, anywhere is close to everywhere.

citizenM says: be a local and travel by bike. But watch out for evil trams.

  • Normaal vind ik dit concept heel saai, maar deze blijft boeiend tot het eind. Heel vet!
