Dax and his father built fun contraptions in physics based games such as The Incredible Machine and Crazy Machines. More ambitious projects, not uncommon amongst 6 year old physicists, required better tools, such as Phun and Working Model 2D. Alas, existing applications simply choke when trying to handle even the most basic mechanical combinatorial circuit, and so the need for Phyz was communicated in no uncertain terms to daddy.
Another definite requirement was the ability to break things. Break, demolish, crush, with accompanying ear-shattering sound. Thoughts to the effect that such functionality provided no help for the mechanical computer we were about to build were met with disdain.
